Meaning and the universe

Been thinking a lot about Virgil's Aeneid these past few years, in particular the story of Aeneas and Dido. How he has to choose between a happy family life, and the pursuit of his destiny. He has to give up the life, and indeed the person he loves, because he knows he is meant to do something greater. Every time I'm safe and comfortable somewhere, and I find someone who is willing to listen to my story, the way Dido listened to Aeneas telling of his suffering, and that person falls in love with me, I always need to resist love.

A few days ago I bumped into a former classmate of mine. We had shared a few philosophy classes in undergrad, and now he's studying law with me (he's two years ahead of me). He grabbed my arm the other day in the hallway and mentioned he and some friends were in a Latin translation club, and they translate passages of Latin poetry bit by bit. I asked him what they're doing lately, and he said they're translating the Aeneid, currently the part where he's telling Dido about the fall of Troy.

Is it meaningful? I don't know. It's a pretty commonly read poem. I don't know if it means so much to other people as it does to me, though.
